Suggestions for a Turquoise Honeymoon Destination?

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico

Due to the fact that we’re getting married on a tropical island, we won’t be doing a honeymoon right away. Technically, our dream turquoise wedding is a wedding and honeymoon in one; however, we’d still like to go on a honeymoon at some point after the wedding. At this point, we’re hoping to depart to a turquoise destination for some relaxing in the sun during our first 6 months of marriage. We’ve talked about a few locations like Mexico, Greece, and Thailand, but I’m wondering if you have any budget friendly honeymoon suggestions. Is it possible to go to the Maldives, Tahiti, Fiji, or alike on a shoe string budget? Is resorting to backpacking our only option? We’d love to have some luxury, while staying local and saving money. I’m wondering if any of you planned a money saving holiday that you could recommend to us. Continue reading

So You’re Getting Married in the Dominican Republic!

Dominican Republic
Of course our friends and family were not surprised when Corey and I decided to have a destination wedding in the Caribbean. The perfect wedding in my mind is one where I can walk down the beach to my husband to be. The sand is where my toes belong. When we first started looking at the variety of destinations in the Caribbean we were overwhelmed. They are so many places to choose from! We finally narrowed it down to a few and started weighing all of our options to see which one seemed the most practical and the best fit for us. After looking at what feels like every venue on each island, we finally agreed on the Dominican Republic for our turquoise inspired beach wedding. Continue reading

Turquoise Thursday: Dominican Republic

Have you ever thought about leaving on a jet plane to a hot tropical destination during the dead of winter? That’s exactly how I am feeling right about now. I’ve been snowed in three times in the past week and I am over winter! When will spring come? Have you ever thought about backpacking through an authentically beautiful turquoise destination? Well, the Dominican Republic might be the perfect place for you! Why not stray away from the typical all inclusive resort and go off the beaten path? Here are just a few of my favorite turquoise travel pictures from my adventures backpacking around the island in 2007.

Photo of the Week- Wishing for Warmer Weather

Bahamas
The cold weather is making me reminisce about a past winter trip that I took to the Bahamas from New York on the Norwegian Gem. What a turquoise dream that was to get away from the winter weather during the winter months.

The Mayan Riviera was the Inspiration for Turquoise Compass

After much encouragement from friends and family, I decided to start a blog in 2013 to document my 14 months of full time travel around the world. In the beginning phases of setting up my blog, I was stumped for a couple weeks thinking about an appropriate name for my blog. I had no idea what to call it. I wanted something that represented my life, my dreams, and my travel journey. I had thought of a few names (Turquoise Trunk was one of them), but they didn’t seem to quite fit. I couldn’t help but keep coming back to the word turquoise. I knew I somehow had to incorporate it into my blog name. Unfortunately, Turquoise Life was already taken, but even Turquoise Life didn’t seem to be perfect for me. I needed something that had to do with the beach, coastal life, traveling, teaching, living life to the fullest, and self discovery. I thought long and hard about what other words and/or phrases would fit well with turquoise, while also encapsulating everything about me. It was a hard task I had at hand. Mexico Continue reading
